We are thrilled to announce that two animated films crafted in collaboration with Mikros Animation, Orion and the Dark and The Tiger’s Apprentice, have been nominated in the Animated Special category at the 3rd Annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards. These nominations highlight the exceptional talent and dedication of our teams across studios in Paris, Bangalore, and Montreal.

Nominated alongside titles like Merry Little Batman and Peter and the Wolf, Orion and the Dark stands out as a heartfelt and visually innovative animated special. Directed by Sean Charmatz and based on the incredible script by Charlie Kaufman, the film explores themes of courage and self-discovery.

The animation, brought to life by Mikros Animation’s Paris and Bangalore studios, reflects a distinct and handmade aesthetic. According to Charmatz, the creative process leaned heavily into embracing constraints to foster innovation. “We wanted something that felt kind of handmade, that was unfinished with a natural quality,” shared the director, emphasizing the collaborative effort to capture an authentic, handcrafted look in 3D animation.

Directed by Raman Hui, Yong Duk Jhun, and Paul Watling, The Tiger’s Apprentice brings Laurence Yep’s beloved novel to life with stunning visuals and compelling storytelling crafted by Mikros Animation’s Paris and Montreal teams.

Our artists worked on every visual aspect of the project, from designing vibrant modern environments to crafting intricate battle scenes and animating the characters. Each zodiac warrior was infused with unique traits, showcasing the team’s ability to seamlessly blend cultural elements with cutting-edge animation techniques. The film’s release on Paramount+ in February 2024 marked a milestone for Mikros Animation, as it demonstrated our capacity to handle complex and ambitious productions.
