Mikros Animation Paris’ teams under the Mikroscope! We asked them 8 questions so that you can get to know them, their world and their successes. At the end, they in turn pass the baton to one of their colleagues so that another person can answer the same questions!
Nominated by Mickaël Nauzin, it’s now the turn of Yannick Honoré, Animation Supervisor to answer our questions. Here are his answers:
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is interacting with the team, I’m always surprised by the artists’ proposals; and finally to see that the artist manages to get a shot that he likes.
Share your student and professional background to get to your position at Mikros Animation!
I’m self-taught, having had a child at a very young age I was both a nanny-daddy and learning to animate on my own when he was asleep, until one day a friend who worked at Ubisoft told me to prepare my demo because they were looking for animators. I was lucky enough to get an internship because I didn’t go to school and my friend vouched for my level. 5 months later I got my first job as an animator at Def2Shoot on a series called Bravo Gudule.
What inspires you or who inspires you?
What inspires me is manga, and the revelation for me was Cobra. I was exposed very early to what is called tough narration: I am part of the “Dorothée generation” after all. I love American stand up too, I think it reflects a lot of what an animator has to do, take a common situation or not, appropriate it, caricature it so that most people can recognize themselves in it. And finally, I would say the films of the 80s, I love the narrative and the humour of that era.
If you had to be a character in Mikros Animation’s films and series, who would you be?
Benny from Sherlock Gnomes, he’s the good friend. I don’t have the same cheeks though.
Your biggest achievement so far?
My greatest achievement is really to have succeeded in making animation my profession because it was not easy at all. Then it is to see that this job has allowed me to travel and discover other cultures.
What would be your superpower?
Avada kedavra, no just kidding! Copying other people’s powers to try them out for myself.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
“Don’t listen to other people’s opinions on what they would like me to do and do what I want to do.“
It’s your turn to name someone from Mikros Animation Paris, to answer these 8 questions!
Alix Putier – I think will hate me so don’t say I named her! (Oops)
