Mikros Animation Paris’ teams under the Mikroscope! We asked them 8 questions so that you can get to know them, their world and their successes. At the end, they in turn pass the baton to one of their colleagues so that another person can answer the same questions!
Joanna Ruer – Head of Productions Episodic & IP agreed to answer our 8 questions and thus allow you to get to know her, as well as discover her indispensable role at Mikros Animation Paris.
What is the best part of your job?
It’s hard to choose just one because there are many: the diversity of projects, new clients, different styles, teams that are consolidated over the years, new ones that arrive…
But the best part is the magic…. You meet clients, you develop a project, there’s the writing, the back and forth, the highs and lows, and then the moment comes when the first colour images with voices and music are released… and then you realise that it was all worth it! It’s always the same feeling for 25 years now when we discover the first images: just magic ☺
What was the first project you worked on when you joined Mikros Animation?
When we joined Mikros Animation, we were already on the series Alvinnn! and the Chipmunks, and we did 5 seasons between Paris and the Bangalore studio.
We have produced many series since then and are currently working on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for Netflix, a very nice project that will accompany us for the next 2 years.
Share your student and professional background to get to your position at Mikros Animation!
After a Baccalauréat diploma (economic and social sciences), I studied at the Institut International de l’Image et du Son (3IS) in the editing section.
After working at TEVA (Internal communication for the TOTAL group), I started working on an animation project for Turner. I then worked at Toon Factory on projects such as “Marcelin Caillou”, then at Antefilms Studio which later became Moonscoop. There I was production manager on “Funky Cops”, “Code Lyoko” and “The Fantastic Four” for Marvel.
For 3 years I was a freelance consultant which allowed me to work on Asterix, The Mansion of the Gods, but not on the Mikros side ☺ But it allowed me to meet Boris Hertzog and Sandrine Nguyen and then to participate in the Mikros adventure.
What inspires you or who inspires you?
People who believe in their project, who have convictions and real visions.
If you had to be a character in Mikros Animation’s films and series, who would you be?
I think I would be Iris, the sister of Gus, the Itsy Bitsy Knight! She has a magic wand and is always ready to do anything to save her brother, I love it!
Your biggest achievement so far?
My daughter of course! And also being good in my life and still loving what I do.
What would be your superpower?
I would love to be able to stop time.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
I would say: trust yourself, follow your instincts and always keep your feet on the ground!
It’s your turn to name someone from Mikros Animation Paris, to answer these 8 questions!
Your turn David Fauré !
