6 June 2024

Govindan, shares his insight on working as the Modeling Supervisor for Thelma the Unicorn.

  • Can you introduce yourself and elaborate on your role in Thelma the Unicorn?

I am Govindan, and I have served as the Modeling Supervisor for Thelma the Unicorn. In this role, I oversaw the modeling team in the Bangalore Unit, ensuring that all assets were accurately and creatively brought to life in accordance with the project’s vision. My responsibilities are maintaining project quality standards (Creative & Technical), coordinating with other departments, and ensuring timely delivery of assets.

  • Did you read the book before working on the film?

Yes, I did read Thelma the Unicorn before working on the film, though not in extensive detail at first. However, it was a delightful experience that provided a wonderful foundation for understanding the essence of the story and its characters.

  • What were the main artistic and technical challenges?

This project was a novel experience for the team, and fortunately, it involved a new pipeline. We also gained valuable insights throughout the journey. Even though we encountered several technical challenges in the initial stages, we managed to overcome them with the support of the team in Montreal. The client’s clear requirements and our collaborative approach ensured alignment throughout the process, facilitating a smooth workflow.

Thelma, the titular character, is my favourite. Her journey and transformation are not only central to the story but also allowed for creative exploration and expression within the modeling process. Throughout the movie, I have thoroughly enjoyed Thelma’s tremendous role.

  • A final word?

I would like to extend my gratitude to my incredible team, whose hard work and dedication made my job easier and the project a huge success. I also want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Samuel Guiraudou (CG Supervisor – Montreal) and Adrien Montero (Modeling Supervisor – Montreal) for their unwavering support throughout this journey. Additionally, I am grateful to our co-departments for their friendly and cooperative approach, and to our beloved client, whose enthusiasm and clear vision kept us motivated and inspired throughout the project.
