Get ready to dive into the magical world of Thelma the Unicorn through the eyes of Gaspard Roche, the CG Supervisor on this captivating project.
- Can you introduce yourself and elaborate on your role in Thelma the Unicorn?
I’m Gaspard Roche, CG Supervisor for Animation on Thelma the Unicorn. My main role was to oversee character animation, acting as a liaison between the Characters and Animation departments.
- Did you read the book before working on the film?
Yes! I even read THE books, because there are 2!
- What were the main artistic and technical challenges?
For me, the major artistic challenge was finding that touch of madness that the artistic team wanted to infuse into all our characters, resulting in truly unique designs.
And the two main technical challenges for me were Nikki Narwhal and designing Thelma’s hair.
- What is your favorite character and sequence?
My favorite moment was seeing the musical sequences of the film come to life, starting with the Animation department’s work and then discovering them in their final version, where every detail added even more emotion to those magical moments.
- Any final thoughts?
There are exactly 363,904 glitter pieces on Thelma! Also… the movie comes out on May 17, which happens to be my birthday!
Thank you Gaspard – Don’t miss Thelma the Unicorn on Netflix!
